He may have been abandoned, but he was never unwanted.
It was a chilly morning in the fall of 2024 when staff at Midtowne Meadows Health & Rehab in Midlothian made a heartbreaking discovery – two tiny puppies huddled together in the darkness of the facility’s parking lot. Frightened but gentle, the siblings were found shivering and alone.
Being caretakers by nature, the Midtowne Meadows team did what they do best – they helped. Within hours, both puppies were safe and fed, their tails beginning to wag once more. The sweet sister soon found a new home, but her brother’s story was only just beginning.

One staff member felt an instant connection with the little male pup, soon to be named Judah. She took him home, giving him not just shelter but a family. As Judah grew, his gentle personality began to shine – calm, affectionate, and remarkably intuitive. There was something special about this once-abandoned puppy, something that couldn’t be ignored.
That’s when an idea began to form. Judah’s quiet strength and nurturing spirit seemed perfectly suited for service – a reflection of his new mom’s own calling as a caregiver at Midtowne Meadows. Soon, Judah was enrolled in a professional training program to become a certified therapy dog.
A mix of Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees, Judah proved a quick study. His intelligence, loyalty, and calm demeanor made him a natural. After months of dedicated training, Judah proudly graduated – and began his very first job right where his story began: at Midtowne Meadows.
Today, Judah is more than a beloved pet. He’s an official part of the Midtowne Meadows team – providing comfort, companionship, and joy to residents, families, and staff alike.

“While Judah is still young and learning, he’s a natural,” said Gracen Hawley, owner and administrator of Midtowne Meadows Health & Rehab. “He senses when someone needs comfort, and everyone lights up when he’s around.”
Judah’s story is a beautiful reminder that every life has purpose – and that sometimes, second chances lead to the most extraordinary journeys.
